The beautiful conception of the Maheshwari saree dates back to 18th century at Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh.
Maheshwari sarees are mostly woven in cotton and silk. These sarees are characterized by a narrow-coloured border embellished with zari, and small checks, narrow stripes, or solid colour in the body. The specialty of Maheshwari sarees is its reversible border, also known as bugdi, which can be worn on both sides.
Block printing is the process of printing patterns by means of engraved wooden blocks. It is the earliest, simplest, and slowest of all methods of textile printing. Block printing by hand is a slow process. It is, however, capable of yielding highly artistic results, some of which are unobtainable by any other method.
